Yosokkoong sits on the site of an old palace Princess Yosok had lived in the Silla Dynasty, which was later settled by the Gyeongju's Rich Main Choi in the Chosun Dynasty. The spot became a hideout for numerous independent activists who were soothing their pent-up anger at losing their country during the Japanese colonial era. The brothers of the Choi family themselves became the principal agent of the independence movement and paid for independence activities. After the liberation, they gave all of their wealth to society, winning the respect of everyone.

Even now, the ambassadors of each country and former presidents and celebrities from all spheres visit Yosokkoong to taste the Rich Man Choi's traditional homemade meals.
